More Cards

I just finished some more cards.  My goal is to fill the folder of different cards so that when I need one, I don't have to find time to make one because I will have an array to choose from...already finished.

I think they turned out well.  I just got a new Sizzix Texture Botique and I love the swiss dots folder.  It adds a little something extra and gives the card some texture as well.  I used a paint chip I picked up at Home Depot to emboss on and it turned out great!  I like to keep my cards simple, and clean looking but sometimes it is tempting to get carried away.  I think this is a great outlet for the creating something fun without spending too much money.  I was at Ross the other day and got two huge pads of papers for $12...couldn't pass up that bargain.  Anyone who knows me knows that I am always up for a good bargain!  Then I can go home and say "Honey, look how much money I have saved you!"

Speaking of my Honey, it was our 34th Anniversary this weekend.  We went out to dinner and a movie...our usual date, because that is what we love to do.  I really love the great man I married and can't imagine life without him.

More Egg Info

http://www.marthastewart.com/article/silk-dyed-easter-eggs

This is one of the links that gives instructions for the silk dyed eggs.  We bought old 100% silk ties and scarves at the local thrift store.  You can probably get 2-3 eggs dyed from one tie.  We found that the ties that gave the best result were the brighter ones with some black or dark blue outline for the design...with the reds being the best bright color.  We cut the threads holding the ties together and discarded all of the inside fabric so we were left with the silk only.  We found it easier to wrap the eggs as tightly as possible and tie them on both ends instead of making a bag.  We did the same thing with the muslin required for the outside wrapping.  The instructions say to boil the eggs for 40 minutes, but we only did it for about 20-25 minutes (Other instructions we found.)  Make sure you wrap the eggs with the colored side toward the egg of the silk fabric.  They won't totally be colored, but the wrinkles in the pattern where the fabric is stretched just give it character.  Some of the ties that we thought would be great didn't even put any dye on the egg.  I have no idea what makes one better than the other for dye.  They say not to eat the eggs.  And you can blow them out before you wrap them if you want to keep them.  Anyway good luck and send me some pictures if you try it!

It is in the cards!

I finally got my craft room set up how I want it.  I have started making some cards and love it!  My goal is to get better at it and send out more cards to the people I love and let them know that I am thinking about them.  Here are a few cards that I just completed!  I am slowing incorporating some designs using my Silhouette (digital cutter).  The possibilities are endless.

Throwing mud!

We spent a very fun day at my sister's place yesterday.  She just bought a potters wheel and so Carolyn, Susannah and I went over to her place to try it for the first time.  It was really fun and quite therapeutic.  We have a lot to learn, but for my first time, the end result wasn't too bad.

 Carolyn is working hard!

 My first try!

Peggy is helping me get it centered.

The end result!

After we went to lunch and made a quick stop at the goodwill, we came back and cut up men's silk ties and wrapped some eggs and boiled them.  This is our result:
